Born in Birmingham, he was transplanted to Atlanta and was heavily influenced by the burgeoning southern rap scene of Georgia. He began rapping by 14-years old and released his street album debut, La Flare, in 2001. Only 1000 copies of the disc were made and Gucci Mane performed at local clubs and venues to promote the effort. It took the young MC a few years to hone his skills, but he managed to release his Tommy Boy debut, Trap House, in 2005. The album was a surprise hit for an independent release. It managed to chart at #10 on the Billboard Rap charts and the album featured the hit single "Icy" with Young Jeezy. Another street album, Hard to Kill, fared even better on the charts reaching #6 in 2006.
By 2007, Gucci Mane was ready to release his major label debut, Back to the Trap House. But it wasn't until 2009, that he scored his first #1 Rap album, The State vs. Radric Davis. The album featured the hit single "Spotlight", which featured Usher, and "Wasted" featuring Plies. The album was well-received and earned Gucci Mane the #6 spot on MTV's annual "Hottest MC in the Game" list in 2009. Gucci Mane tour dates and concert performances were scheduled periodically throughout the nation to promote the disc and capitalize on his rising cache. Gucci Mane also founded his own record label, 1017 Brick Squad Records, in 2009 and picked up rising MC, Waka Flocka Flame, the following year. He released his latest album, The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted, in 2010. The album featured the hit single "Gucci Time", and debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, becoming his highest charting mainstream album to-date.
Gucci Mane scheduled the unofficially titled The Appeal Tour to promote the disc. The whirlwind concert tour has Gucci Mane traversing the country playing intimate venues to his loyal fans. In addition to his studio albums, he continues to release street albums; his most recent, The Return of Mr. Zone 6, recently hit #2 on the Billboard Rap charts in March, 2011. The prolific rapper continues to write rhymes and produce hits for his upcoming album to culminate the trilogy. The upcoming album, The State vs. Radric Davis: The Verdict, is due out once Gucci Mane wraps up his summer tour. The prolific rapper will be out on the road for selected dates throughout 2011.
